For the first time, ever, even though they may have claimed to have "done it wagon-style" several times before, GMC is finally getting a sport wagon, which was originally planned for Pontiac in 2008. The move was GM's reward to GMC for moving a record 563,470 U.S. units last year. GMC has long been regarded as a truck manufacturer, but GM finds it the perfect brand to use for jumping into the growing sport wagon segment because of the diminishing differences between current crossover vehicles and traditional SUVs. The sport wagon will make use of GM's Lambda architecture, which underpins front- and all-wheel drive minivans, plus sport crossover wagons. Pontiac shouldn't feel too bad about the heist, however, as they still have a 2006 sport wagon on the way, the Torrent.
