The subject of this post is one Jory Squibb, and his homebuilt Moonbeam three-wheeled conveyance. Being created by a Squibb, it should come as no surprise that the Moonbeam was hand-fabricated and can achieve 100 mpg with absolutely no magic involved. All you need is about $2,500, Jory's plans, and approximately 1,000 hours of your spare time. That's a year of weekends at 10 hours a day.

Starting with salvaged scooter parts, Mr. Squibb built his moonbeam as a three-wheeled vehicle and says he gets about 80-85 mpg in regular driving but can hit 105 under the right conditions. The Moonbeam uses a Honda 150cc 4-stroke motor that because of its water-cooling can provide heat to the cabin on cold days. It uses a variable transmission as well so the controls are all hand operated. Just another example of backyard mechanics coming up with something unique to solve a need.
