Less teens getting behind the wheel

Less teens getting behind the wheel

teen drivers

I'm not sure how I feel about this story that explores the trend of teenagers not getting their drivers licenses once they reach the legal age. Early on in the story the percentages are for local drivers and only signify a six percent drop, which to me is hard to quantify since all local areas have different factors etc. But at the end of the story the useful number is the nine percent drop from 52 to 43 percent nationally from 1992 to 2002 of teenagers getting their licenses at 16 or 17. That to me is a big drop. Many teenagers don't see driving as a big deal and I can see these same teenagers going through college without learning to drive and then come graduation and new job ramming into me on the highway. Plus it strikes me as odd that a teenager doesn't want the freedom of driving. What's wrong with the kids today?
